Frequently asked questions
Everything about ProxyMod — licensing, supported versions, the app and plugins.
General
What is ProxyMod?
ProxyMod is a desktop proxy that sits between your Minecraft client and a server and decodes every packet flowing in both directions, in real time. It's built for developers, debugging and protocol analysis, with a Lua scripting layer to inspect or rewrite traffic.
Is it affiliated with Mojang or Microsoft?
No. Minecraft is a trademark of Mojang Studios; ProxyMod is an independent tool and is not affiliated with Mojang or Microsoft.
Is it safe and legal to use?
ProxyMod is a debugging tool. Only analyse connections and servers you own or are explicitly authorised to test. The proxy relays an authenticated, encrypted session exactly like a direct join — it doesn't bypass server security.
Licensing & pricing
How do I buy a license?
Purchasing isn't available yet — licensing is still being finalised. The store will open here once it's ready; in the meantime there's nothing to buy.
Do I need a license to use ProxyMod?
Yes. An active license unlocks the desktop app and the marketplace. Without one you can't download the app, browse or install plugins, or start the proxy. Managing plugins you've already published stays available.
What happens when my license expires?
The app re-checks your license on every launch. Once it lapses, the launcher won't start a session and the marketplace re-locks until you renew. Your account, plugins and settings are kept.
Supported versions
Which Minecraft versions are supported?
These are the “moddable” versions ProxyMod targets. The picker in the launcher offers the supported ones:
Versions are added over time. A version shown as not supported isn't available in the launcher for now.
My version isn't listed — can you add it?
Support is rolled out version by version. If the one you need is missing, open a ticket from your dashboard and we'll consider it.
Using the app
What do I need to run it?
Java 21 or newer. ProxyMod runs on Windows, macOS and Linux as a desktop app and opens a small control panel in your browser at http://localhost:8080.
How do I connect my Minecraft client?
Enter the host and port of the target server, pick the Minecraft version to speak, and start the session. The proxy then listens on 127.0.0.1:25565 — add that as a server in Minecraft and join it. The chosen version must match the server, so only supported versions are offered. See the docs for a step-by-step guide.
How does sign-in work? Is my Minecraft account safe?
There are two sign-ins, both in your browser: your ProxyMod account (to verify your license) and one or more Minecraft accounts through Microsoft's official device-code flow. Your password never touches the app — only tokens are stored locally in your app-data folder.
Plugins
What are plugins?
Plugins are small Lua scripts that react to packets — read fields, log traffic, drop or inject packets, run code on a timer. Browse ready-made ones on the marketplace.
How do I install a plugin?
From the in-app Script Manager: install a plugin from the marketplace, then load, unload or delete it on the fly — no restart needed. Each download is verified against its pinned SHA-256 hash.
Are plugins reviewed?
Yes. Every plugin and every new version is moderated before it appears on the marketplace, and only scripts hosted on proxymod.net can be installed.
Account & support
How do I get help?
Open a support ticket from the Support tab of your dashboard — our team replies right there.
Can I change my email or delete my account?
Yes — both from the Account tab. Email changes are confirmed by a link sent to the new address. Account deletion has a grace period during which you can cancel it.
